The chapter introduces the reader to the basic goals of a psychological research study. The identification of the aims of a psychology study puts one in a better position of conducting research within provisions. The chapter gives students insights of research study preparations which do not only improve comprehension of psychological concepts but also enable scholars develop good research habits. The book give a distinction between qualitative and quantitative modes of data collection in a simple way that enable the cross cultural psychological researcher organize the research methodology in a manner that build towards achieving the aims of the research. Another way I find this chapter helpful is the way comprehensive explanation about how to test and compare two or more variables using vast statistical methods have been explained. Thus quantitative analysis comes into play at this point of cross cultural research study.
The summary of chapter wraps up well the idea that cross cultural researchers should aim at similarity in every phenomenon under study. I agree with this idea since the purpose of cross cultural study is to find out any correlation between the concepts across dynamic cultures and draw conclusions. The chapter also advices against generalizations the fact I concur with in a sense that every group of people is unique in its own way of handling same matters.

This study is a replica of the truth across many cultures which tend to isolate old people. The research found out that the source of upkeep for old people is similar ice many depend on their children or spouses for a living. The dependent variables according to this study were loneliness and subjective well being while independent variable was main support of old people comes from the children and spouses.
